MCC, MCG pitch in for bushfire appeal

Feb 19, 2009

The Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) and Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) Trust have today announced a donation of $150,000 to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal.

Discussions were held between the two parties earlier this week to finalise the extent of the financial support, which will assist with the ongoing recovery program conducted by Red Cross.

“The Victorian bushfire tragedy has impacted throughout our community, including within the membership of our own club,” said MCC chief executive Stephen Gough.  “We extend our sympathies to the families and friends of those affected, in particular members of the MCC family who have lost loved ones and/or their homes.”

Mr Gough called on the MCC community, of which there are approximately 100,000 members and another 185,000 on the waiting list, to do whatever they can to support the appeal.

“We ask our members to follow our lead and dig deep to help those in need,” said Mr Gough. “At this time we also wish to recognise the sterling efforts of the volunteer fire brigade and other emergency services personnel during this crisis.”

Donations to the appeal can be made online via the Red Cross website (www.redcross.org.au) or by phone 1800 811 700.
