Limited MCG car parking for this weekend's AFL matches

Aug 05, 2010

Due to recent inclement weather, the Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) advises that the number of spaces available for car parking in Yarra Park will be restricted for each AFL match this weekend at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

The three matches being played at the MCG this weekend are:
• Friday August 6 – Essendon v Carlton, 7.40pm
• Saturday August 7 – Geelong Cats v Collingwood, 7.10pm
• Sunday August 8 – Melbourne v Richmond, 2.10pm

As a result, the MCC advises patrons attending any of the matches to take public transport to the MCG where possible. More than 65,000 fans are expected to attend Friday night’s Essendon-Carlton match and approximately 90,000 for Saturday night’s Geelong Cats-Collingwood blockbuster.

Alternatively, car parking options away from Yarra Park include the Olympic Park precinct (Olympic Boulevard), Federation Square and Melbourne’s central business district.

Just a few thousand public reserved tickets remain for Saturday night’s Geelong Cats-Collingwood match. Tickets can be purchased through Ticketek (www.ticketek.com.au, 132 849 or agencies).

MCG fans can get the latest updates on tickets and parking in Yarra Park for this weekend’s matches via www.mcg.org.au, Facebook (www.facebook.com/melbournecricketground) and Twitter (www.twitter.com/MCG_News).

Over two million fans have passed through the MCG during the 2010 AFL season at an average of 53,326 per match, almost 3000 more than the same point last season.
