MCC awards event day parking tender

The Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) today announced it had awarded its event day parking management contract to Care Park Pty Ltd, following an extensive tender process.

The contract involves management of vehicle access in and out of the Yarra Park precinct on days when major events are held at the MCG, Rod Laver Arena, Hi Sense Arena and AAMI Park.

The terms of the arrangement with Care Park are for 12 months, with the MCC retaining the option of a 12-month extension at the end of the contract.  The appointment ends a 12-year association with Secure Parking as the parking manager in Yarra Park.

“Management of Yarra Park for the safe, efficient use by vehicles and pedestrians is an important component of the delivery of major events in the precinct,” MCC CEO Stephen Gough said. 

“We welcome the appointment of Care Park and look forward to working with them, while also acknowledging the contribution Secure Parking has made to the precinct over a long period of time.”

Legislation passed through Victorian Parliament in December 2009, transferring day-to-day management of Yarra Park from City of Melbourne to the MCG Trust and, ultimately, MCC. This came into effect on March 15, 2010.

A major landscape and amenities upgrade in Yarra Park is expected to commence shortly, including the installation of a water recycling facility that will provide 180 million litres of recycled water to Yarra Park and the MCG.
