Celebrating 40 years of ODI cricket

Jan 15, 2011

Keith Stackpole faces John Snow in the first one-day cricket match at the MCG in 1971.

The first one-day international (ODI) was played between Australia and England at the MCG on January 5, 1971.  View the scorecard

To mark the 40th anniversary this month, Cricket Australia will pay homage to the great moments of ODI cricket, include a select number of tickets to the January 16 ODI at the MCG priced at $19.70 and will reward fans who dress in 1970s gear at matches.

The Australian ODI team from 1971 - Bill Lawry (c), Greg Chappell, Ian Chappell, Alan Connolly, Graham McKenzie, Ashley Mallett, Rod Marsh, Ian Redpath, Keith Stackpole, Alan Thomson and Doug Walters - will also be presented to the crowd during the innings break of the one-day international between Australia and England at the MCG on Sunday January 16.

Hello Jac. We have placed the link to the relevant Ticketek page in the story above (second paragraph). If you click that link, then choose General Reserved from the price category on the Ticketek website, you'll be able to select the Classic As 1971 Offer, which costs $19.70 per ticket.

Can anyone get the ticket for $19.71? Is there any condition to buy the ticket for this price? Does everyone has to come in dressing style of 1971? I think it will be great fun.

Hi Mart. Anyone can purchase the $19.70 tickets, although the seats are in a particular section of the ground. You can purchase here now: http://premier.ticketek.com.au/shows/showtickets.aspx?sh=ODIEN0110&v=MCG&p=EMCV2011616

Hi Josie. There will be some parking, but not a great deal. You can view the gate opening times at http://www.mcg.org.au/Yarra%20Park/Parking%20Schedule.aspx

what is the reward for wearing 70s gear???

Hi Asa, we don't know much about that. You will need to ask Cricket Australia, as they are running that particular promotion.

Hi, I have tried the link within the article and the link you posted to Josie, but neither of them give me a Classic as 1971 option when I choose General Reserved? Does that mean those ticks are now sold out?? If I can't work this out on the computer, can I buy these $19.70 tickets at the ground (if so, which gate would I go to)?
