2013 AFL fixture released

The MCG in AFL Grand Final modeThe MCG will host 45 matches in the 2013 AFL home and away season, commencing with Carlton v Richmond on Thursday March 28, followed by two other matches over the Easter weekend in Round 1.

Melbourne will play Port Adelaide on Easter Sunday (March 31), while recent rivals Geelong Cats and Hawthorn will resume hostilities on Easter Monday (April 1). 

Of the 45 MCG matches, 20 will be played during the day, seven at twilight and 16 at night, with dates and times for the final round of matches (Round 23) to be determined later in the season.

Last season's premiers, Sydney Swans, will play three matches at the MCG in 2013 (up from one in 2012), while runner-up and MCG tenant Hawthorn will play four fewer matches at the 'G (nine, down from 13 in 2012).

Several established marquee matches have been retained, including Collingwood playing Essendon on Anzac Day, and Melbourne taking on the Magpies on Queen's Birthday Monday.
