MCG is the Facebook place to be

The Melbourne Cricket Ground was the most checked-in place in Australia on Facebook for the second year running.

Crown Melbourne, Rod Laver Arena and Etihad Stadium rounded out the top four Australian check-ins, with Sydney's Darling Harbour dropping three spots to fifth this year.

"We work very hard to proactively engage fans, whether they're at the stadium or at home, and our use of social media is an important part of that success," Melbourne Cricket Club communications manager Shane Brown said.

"The MCG is an Australian icon - people love to tell friends they are at the 'G and share that experience with others."

The MCG also made the Top 20 global check-ins list for 2013, with Disneyland and Thailand shopping mall Siam Paragon taking out the top spots.
