Driving home after the game?

Fans who park vehicles in Yarra Park should be aware of steps being taken to improve the safety of MCG patrons leaving the precinct after an event who are attempting to access roads, tram stops and train stations.

We have introduced a new method for handling vehicles exiting Yarra Park, particularly adjacent to Jolimont and Richmond train stations, following a trial conducted during the recent cricket season.

Designed to further segregate pedestrians and vehicles, the new approach will see pedestrians given priority over vehicles when leaving Yarra Park from about 15 minutes prior to the end of the match.

From that time, exiting vehicles will be held back behind bollards, leaving the main pedestrian thoroughfares clear, until pedestrians have exited safely. This is expected to take around 20-25 minutes after the siren, although the exact time will vary according to the number of pedestrians in the precinct.

Additional resources will also be placed in the park after events to assist with communication and the safe exit of all visitors.
