Volunteers

Volunteering at the MCG can be an extremely rewarding experience, with hundreds of thousands of people coming from all over the world to visit each year.

We welcome expressions of interest from prospective volunteers to support the operation of the Australian Sports Museum at the MCG.

Volunteers will work as part of an overall team, including full-time and part-time staff, and with other volunteer MCG Guides operating our stadiumtours.

Volunteer roles for the Australian Sports Museum include:
  • assisting visitors with information and directions within gallery spaces.
  • visitor reception, logistics support and control.
  • supervising interactive activities.
  • supervision/guiding of group activities, including school groups.
  • basic administrative duties.
  • shifts for volunteers are scheduled based on morning and afternoon shift times. 

Volunteers may also be sought to assist during sports events or other MCG-related activities linked to the Australian Sports Museum.

Become an Australian Sports Museum Volunteer

The Australian Sports Museum and MCG Tours are iconic experiences at the heart of Melbourne’s tourism scene, welcoming over 175,000 visitors each year. From local families and school groups to international tourists, people come to the MCG to be inspired by the legends, moments, and memories that have shaped Australian sport.

We’re looking for passionate volunteers to help us deliver unforgettable visitor experiences at the Australian Sports Museum. As a volunteer, you'll play a vital role in creating a welcoming, inclusive, and safe environment where everyone feels part of the story.

  • Are enthusiastic about sport and history
  • Communicate with warmth, confidence, and professionalism
  • Remain calm and adaptable under pressure
  • Enjoy working with people from all backgrounds

To be considered, you’ll need to:
  • Commit to a minimum of two volunteer shifts per month
  • Have internet access and a valid email address for communication
  • Be available for a selection and information session on Wednesday June 4, 5:30–7:30pm
  • Attend a compulsory induction and training session on Wednesday June 11, 5:30–7:30pm
