Management of the MCG

The government-appointed MCG Trust vests administration of the Melbourne Cricket Ground in the Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC).

The MCC ensures the MCG remains the leading major events sports stadium in Australia for the benefit of patrons and the public of Victoria, while recognising its location in major public parklands.

The MCC has managed the MCG since September 23, 1853 when Lieutenant-Governor La Trobe granted the present site of the MCG to the club.

The current agreement between the MCC and the MCG Trust expires in 2042.

There are about 150 permanent club employees and event staff are drawn from a pool of 1000-plus for match-day duties at the ground.
