Getting Here
We offer limited accessible parking at the MCG for customers who hold a valid Australian Disability Parking Permit. This only applies to non-event days and must be booked in advance by emailing contactus@australiansportsmuseum.org.au. Please include the following details:
- your booking reference number
- name
- mobile number
- car registration.
Please note: if our allocation of accessible parking spaces reaches capacity on any given day, we may not be able to accommodate all requests.
The maximum height of the car park entrance is 2.1 metres.
- Eastern Plaza Car Park (Google Maps) on Olympic Boulevard is the nearest multi-storey car park to the Australian Sports Museum at Gate 3. There is a lift from this car park to the Melbourne Arena Bridge which connects with the MCG concourse. It is approximately 700m. Pre-book Eastern Plaza car parking.
- There is limited street parking available at the corner of Jolimont Terrace and Jolimont Street (Google Maps). From this point it is approximately 300m to Gate 3 of the MCG.
- Yarra Park is only open for car parking on select major event days. Please check the opening schedule for major event days at MCG Parking.
The MCG is well connected by public transport:
- Richmond Station (open in Google Maps) – Approximately 900m to Gate 3 of the MCG. You will need to cross Punt Rd at the traffic lights then walk through Yarra Park. The Yarra Park pathways are asphalt and you will be going uphill as you approach Gate 3.
- Jolimont Station (open in Google Maps) – A 400m journey (downhill) to Gate 3 of the MCG. If you are arriving at the station from the city, you will need to cross the railway bridge before entering Yarra Park. The Yarra Park pathways are asphalt and you will be going downhill as you approach Gate 3.
- Jolimont Station/MCG Tram Stop (open in Google Maps) on Wellington Parade – Approximately 400m walk (downhill) to Gate 3 of the MCG. You will need to cross the railway bridge before entering Yarra Park. The Yarra Park pathways are asphalt and you will be going downhill as you approach Gate 3.
The G-Train mobility shuttle service is now available free of charge to Australian Sports Museum and MCG Tours customers with mobility challenges. The service is for customers arriving by public transport or taxi/ride share who need assistance getting to Gate 3 from the surrounding precinct.
Pick up and drop off locations:
- Close to Richmond Station: Yarra Park near the Richmond Football Club on the Brunton Avenue side.
- For those arriving and departing by taxi/ride share: Turning circle at the corner of Jolimont Terrace and Jolimont Street.
- Close to Jolimont Station and Tram Stop 11 on Wellington Parade: Near Jolimont Station, city bound/ Yarra Park side of the station.

Pre-book at least 24 hours in advance of the visit by emailing contactus@australiansportsmuseum.org.au or phoning (03) 9657 8879 and providing us with the following information:
- Name and mobile contact number
- Date of visit and expected arrival time
- Booking ID number of pre-purchased Australian Sports Museum / MCG Tour ticket/s
- Requested pick-up and drop-off location
- How many people will require the service
Each pick-up and drop-off is limited to the capacity of the G-Train buggy. The buggy can accommodate up to five passengers pending your group’s accessibility requirements and any mobility aides.
The tour and museum G-Train is available on days with no events or set up/pack down activities at the MCG or Yarra Park.
Your booking will be confirmed by email from the team at Australian Sports Museum. The service is subject to availability.
At the Museum and MCG
The Australian Sports Museum is split across three levels. A lift connects the ground level to Level B1 and a ramp connects Level B1 to Level B2. Seating is spread throughout the Museum for when you need a rest.
The MCG Tour route can be adjusted according to your access needs. The arena can be accessed by stairs or a steep ramp. Please advise your tour guide if you require ramp access. All other areas of the MCG are serviced by lifts.
A limited number of wheelchairs are available for loan. To arrange a wheelchair, please contact us prior to your visit.
- Outside the MCG: One gender neutral, accessible bathroom is located outside the MCG, between Gate 3 and 4 (behind the light tower). This bathroom is open to the public from 9:00am to 5:00pm each day, as well as after hours during events.
- Changing Places facility inside Gate 3 (opposite the Museum’s ticket counter). The Changing Places facility is equipped with features such as a tracking hoist, full-sized change table, and more space to meet the needs of people with a disability. - Inside the Australian Sports Museum: One gender neutral, accessible bathroom is on the upper level. This bathroom can only be used by Museum and MCG Tours ticketholders.
- Ground Level: There are two gender neutral, accessible bathrooms close to Gate 3.
- Inside the Australian Sports Museum: This Parents’ Room is equipped with feeding cubicles, change tables and a microwave. This room can only be used by Australian Sports Museum ticketholders.
- Level 1 (Ground Level): There is a Parents’ Room located close to Gate 3. This room is equipped with feeding cubicles, change tables and a microwave. There is a code required to open this room, so please ask staff for assistance.
A person with a disability can bring a companion to the Australian Sports Museum or MCG Tour for free, when purchasing their own ticket and showing proof of a valid companion card.
Companion card holder tickets may be booked online or at the Gate 3 ticket counter.
All certified guide, hearing, assistance and trainee support dogs (including puppies) are welcome at the MCG. Please ensure your dog is easily identifiable as an assistance dog and that you can present relevant certification information upon request.
The nearest dog spending (relief) area is on the grass in Yarra Park.
Hearing loops are available throughout the Australian Sports Museum at large multimedia displays. All videos are transcribed.

The Australian Sports Museum consists of a lot of physical artefacts, displays, digital screens and written stories. Whilst there is some audio played throughout the Museum, presently we do not have a guided tour of the Museum or have any exhibit descriptions in braille or tactile text.
