Football fans attending the ANZAC Day Eve and ANZAC Day blockbusters at the MCG are strongly advised to take public transport and arrive early, with no public car parking in Yarra Park and special pre-match ceremonies taking place before the opening bounce.
A crowd of more than 85,000 is forecast for Tuesday night’s Melbourne v Richmond match (public gates open at 5.00pm) while more than 90,000 fans are expected to attend the traditional ANZAC Day match between Collingwood and Essendon on Wednesday afternoon (public gates open at 12.30pm).No public car parking – utilise public transport
The MCC takes this opportunity to remind fans that, for safety and security reasons, there will be no public car parking available in Yarra Park for the ANZAC Day Eve and ANZAC Day matches.While a limited number of parking spaces will be available via Gate 3 for disability permit holders and other passholders, patrons are urged to arrive early to avoid missing out.
Fans are advised to utilise public transport to get to the MCG, as road closures, ongoing works and (on Tuesday night) peak hour traffic are all expected to bring congestion to the sporting precinct.
Plan ahead and allow extra time
Patrons for both matches should allow plenty of time to enter the stadium and are encouraged to be in their seat at least an hour before the bounce in order to view the pre-match ANZAC ceremonies.Bag checks and wanding processes will take place at the MCG entry gates, and express lanes for patrons without bags will also be in operation.
Fans are encouraged to minimise the number of bags, or bring clear bags, in order to reduce the wait time in gate queues.
