Fans are being urged to allow extra time to get to some matches at the MCG this season with buses replacing trains on major lines travelling through Richmond station.
Preparatory works will impact fans attending the opening round match between Melbourne and Port Adelaide on Saturday March 23, which starts at 1.45pm.
Important information to know
• Buses will replace trains on the Cranbourne, Pakenham, Frankston lines between Caulfield and Flinders Street stations and on the Sandringham line between Sandringham and Flinders Street stations on Saturday Match 23.
• For passengers on the Cranbourne, Pakenham, and Frankston lines, buses will be dropping off customers either at the Arts Centre, on St Kilda Road, at Federation Square or Parliament Station.
• To access the MCG, catch a train to Jolimont Station or a tram up Flinders Street – with the free tram zone extended through to the MCG - or walk to the ground.
• The MCG’s Buggy Transfer Service, operated by Travellers Aid Australia for people with mobility challenges, have added Jolimont Station and William Barak Bridge to its match day pick-up locations this season. The service will continue to operate from Richmond Station.
• If you are planning on driving to Saturday’s game, car parking will be available in Yarra Park with access via Gate (from 9.00am), Gate 6 (10.30am) and Gate 5 (11.30am).
• There are also parking options at Melbourne and Olympic Park. Click here for those details.
The most significant disruption period will then be between April 6-23 with buses replacing trains on the Cranbourne, Pakenham, Frankston and Sandringham lines through Richmond Station to various locations.
The works will begin at 1.30am on Saturday April 6 following the conclusion of the Friday night Melbourne-Essendon game on Friday night.
There are seven matches scheduled to be played at the MCG during that period.
The Alamein, Belgrave, Lilydale and Glen Waverley lines will still be operating through Richmond station. Trains will resume on the Sandringham line through Richmond station on Easter Monday.
