Location

The Australian Sports Museum and MCG Tours are located inside Gate 3 of the Melbourne Cricket Ground, within the confines of Yarra Park, East Melbourne.

Public Transport

Trains

Jolimont Station is north of the MCG and offers a five-minute stroll direct through Yarra Park to Gate 3. From any railway station in the CBD, take the Hurstbridge or Mernda lines.

Richmond Station is on the south-eastern side of the MCG. It’s a slightly longer walk but you can walk past Punt Road Oval, head north around Yarra Park to MCG Gate 3. To get to Richmond station from the CBD, take any train on the Lilydale, Belgrave, Alamein, Glen Waverley, Dandenong, Pakenham, Cranbourne, Frankston or Sandringham lines.

Trams

  • Route 75 (City-Vermont South) and Route 48 (City-North Balwyn) trams stop outside the MCG near Jolimont Station. From here it’s a simple five-minute stroll through Yarra Park to Gate 3 at the MCG.
  • Route 70 (City-Wattle Park) detours from Flinders Street along Swan Street. From here, it’s a short walk across the footbridge around to MCG Gate 3.

Buses

Bus route 246 is a useful service for patrons from the northern and southern suburbs. It stops in Punt Road and is just a short stroll through Yarra Park to the MCG.

School Groups

Victorian preschool, kindergarten or primary school excursion groups of 12 to 35 people can travel for free on public transport when the entire journey is on a school day between 9:00am and 4:00pm, or after 6pm (on V/Line) or 7pm (metropolitan services). Walking Routes

Federation Square to Gate 3 takes 15 to 20 minutes, over William Barak Bridge.

Jolimont Station to Gate 3 takes 5 minutes.

Richmond Station to Gate 3 takes 10 to 15 minutes.

Car Parking

There is no parking available at the MCG for Australian Sports Museum visitors.

Alternative Parking Options

Accessible Parking

We offer limited accessible parking for Australian Sports Museum and MCG Tours customers who hold a valid Australian Disability Parking Permit. This only applies to non-event days and must be booked in advance.

Coaches

The drop off zone and turning circle are located at the corner of Jolimont Terrace and Jolimont Street. As this is not a parking zone, buses will need to move to street parking after drop off.

Taxi/Ride Share

Taxis and ride share vehicles are instructed to drop off and pick up passengers from the Bus Turning Circle, on the corner of Jolimont Terrace and Jolimont Street. From this point it is approximately a 5 minute walk to Gate 3.
