Manchester United set for the MCG

One of the powerhouses of world sport, Manchester United will return to the Melbourne for the first time in 22 years, for two matches at the MCG this winter.

The English Premier League giants will take on three-time A-League champions, Melbourne Victory on July 15 and fellow Premier League club, Crystal Palace F.C. on July 19.

Manchester United is one of the most popular and successful sporting teams in the world - having won 13 English Premier League titles since 1992.

The last time United played in Melbourne, coincidentally on July 15 back in 1999, they defeated Australia 2-0 in an exhibition match, which drew 60,000 spectators.

The Red Devils sit currently sixth in the Premier League table this season, with nine matches still to play, while Crystal Palace are currently 11th.

Hometown team, Melbourne Victory are sitting sixth in the A-League Men's competition, also with nine matches left of the regular season.
